Welcome to the next chapter in my life!
I am a college-educated woman in my late thirties. I have a life to manage which includes a husband, three kids, a dog, a politically incorrect SUV and a home in the suburbs. Since all this is obviously not enough to take up every waking moment of my life, I am thinking about writing a blog.
Well, I guess you could say I am not just “thinking” about it if I am sitting here with my fingers hitting keys with an actual purpose. The “thinking” part comes in here: Is this a good idea? Am I really that interesting? Does anyone really want to know what I think? And, most importantly, will I have any friends left if I put my real thoughts down for all to see?
You see, ask anyone who knows me, I definitely have a lot to say. And sometimes, I even think I am funny. Not funny enough to write the lead skit this week for Saturday Night Live but just funny enough. My friends seem to think I am entertaining and even interesting – or maybe they are just humoring me a bit. I am not sure. There is one thing I am sure of and it is that I definitely possess that need to vent on a regular basis. And of course, I have lots of opinions…. So why is today the day to start putting my thoughts in print? (can I say print, when it will never be put on actual paper?) I am not quite sure. Maybe it is because I was with some women today who seemed to be entertained by my thoughts. Maybe it is because I am convinced I am more interesting than most guest hosts filling in on the view.
Or maybe, I just need another place to vent so I don’t drive my friends crazy!
So here I sit at what could be the beginning of a fun new adventure. Or, this could be one more in a long list of great ideas which seem to get put at the bottom of the list beneath all the necessary mom responsibilities – such as carpool, overseeing homework and somehow maintaining a household in which items seem to miraculously re-stock themselves in the refrigerator on a regular basis. These items perform their magic in the same manner which matching clean socks re-appear daily in the top drawer of each child’s dresser. Yes, lots to do to maintain a household but I think I will just add one more to the list.
At this point, I think I will give it a go. You never know what may hit me as what I need to share with others. Believe me (and anyone who has known me during any part of the last ten years of my life), there is much to write about. Aside from the daily humor of being around women in my peer group, I have a huge reserve of family drama. If that can of worms ever opens, those stories will fill more volumes than the Harry Potter series sitting on my son’s bookshelves. So, I think we will stick to the daily rantings of a mom in the suburbs and leave the crazy relatives out of this!
So, thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy my thoughts and I look forward to your thoughts as well.
So finally, YES! At the risk of sounding as narcissistic as an old college friend, I guess I really do think I am that interesting. Or at least, INTERESTING ENOUGH!

Yes, you really are THAT interesting. I love it. It’s great that you decided to do this. I’ve subscribed and look forward to more entries. I’ll be reading them on my blackberry while I sit in carpool and contemplate what to make for dinner because I too am a college educated, politically incorrect SUV driving, dog owning, suburban mom in her late thirties! Keep them coming–I’ll be reading
